Privacy Policy
Effective June 11, 2026
Raeo is built on a simple idea: the memory of your friendships belongs to you. This policy explains, in plain language, what Raeo stores, what leaves your phone, and the controls you have.
The short version. What Raeo remembers about your friends lives on your iPhone, not on our servers. There are no accounts, no ads, no sale of your data, and no tracking. When you chat with Raeo, that conversation is processed in the moment through our relay, and what comes back is saved only on your phone.
What Raeo stores on your device
Your friends, their profiles, your conversation history, topics, follow-ups, key facts, and your timeline are stored locally on your iPhone using Apple’s SwiftData framework. Raeo has no accounts, and we keep no copy of your memory on our servers.
iCloud backup
One honest detail about backups, so nothing here surprises you:
Your Raeo memory is included in your iPhone’s encrypted backup, like your Messages, so a new phone doesn’t mean losing the thread. Turn on Advanced Data Protection in iCloud settings for end-to-end encryption.
AI processing
When you chat with Raeo, your message and the relevant friend context are sent through our relay server to a third-party AI provider (currently Google Gemini) to generate the response. We configure this processing so that your conversation is not retained by us and is not used to train AI models. The response is stored only on your device.
- This applies to debrief conversations and to the onboarding chat that builds your first friend profiles.
- Friend context can include calendar event details, like an event title, so your briefings reflect the plans you actually have.
- Chat transcripts may also be processed through the same relay to pull out facts, topics, and follow-ups. On iPhones that support Apple’s on-device models, some of this work may happen on your device instead.
- The AI provider’s API key lives only on our server, not in the app.
- Voice capture is transcribed on your device using Apple’s on-device speech recognition. Audio never leaves your phone; only the resulting text enters the chat.
Calendar access
Raeo reads your calendar to know when you’re seeing friends. It never writes to your calendar. Event details help prepare your briefings and are processed through the relay described above. You can revoke calendar access at any time in iOS Settings.
Notifications
Raeo uses local notifications to remind you before and after events. They are created on your device. No push notification service is involved.
Waitlist email
If you enter your email address on this website to join the waitlist, we store that address so we can tell you when Raeo is available. It is used for that purpose only. We do not sell it, share it for advertising, or add it to any other list. You can ask us to delete it at any time by writing to support@raeo.app. This is separate from the app: the iPhone app itself has no accounts and does not ask for your email.
Anonymous analytics
To understand which parts of Raeo are working, the app counts events. Each event is an event name (like “chat message sent”), the date, and a truncated one-way hash of a device identifier (8 characters) used to estimate how many people use Raeo. No names, no message content, no friend information. There are no third-party analytics SDKs in the app.
Crash and performance diagnostics
Raeo uses Apple’s MetricKit framework to receive crash and performance reports, such as stack traces and hang durations. These reports contain no conversation content and no friend information. They are sent to our server to help find and fix problems, and they are automatically deleted after 30 days.
Device authentication
To protect the relay from abuse, Raeo creates a device token (using Apple’s App Attest where available) stored in your iPhone’s Keychain. It contains a random identifier, expires after 90 days, and is not linked to your Apple ID or your identity.
What about your friends?
What you save about a friend is your private note about your own life. It stays on your device. We never sell it, share it for advertising, or use it to contact anyone. You can view, export, or delete everything Raeo remembers about a specific friend at any time, in the app.
Your controls
- Export everything:Settings > Export My Data creates a file with your friends and events.
- Per friend:view, export, or delete a single friend’s memory in the app.
- Delete everything:Settings > Delete All Data permanently removes all local data and your device token.
- Permissions: revoke Calendar, Microphone, Speech, or Notification access at any time in iOS Settings.
Services Raeo relies on
- Google Gemini API: generates chat responses. Receives conversation text and friend context through our relay, configured as described in AI processing above.
- Cloudflare Workers: runs our relay and rate limiting. Requests pass through; conversation content is not stored.
- Apple frameworks: SwiftData (on-device storage), MetricKit (diagnostics), and on-device speech recognition.
Age
Raeo is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from people under 18.
This is not an arbitrary line. The AI provider's API terms prohibit services directed towards, or likely to be accessed by, individuals under 18. The App Store listing is rated 18+ to match.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Raeo evolves. Material changes will be noted in the app, and the effective date above will change.
